Views given on possible sales
An extraordinary meeting of Thanet District Council’s Cabinet
has been held today (Thursday 17 July) for local people to give
their views on plans to sell off 16 council owned sites across
Thanet.
The meeting was the final part of the consultation process,
which first started in April. Every year, all sites owned by the
council will be looked at to see how cost effective, well
maintained, well used and beneficial to the community they are.
The sites that went out to consultation were:
- Booth Place, Dalby Square, 22 Cecil Square, 45 Hawley Square,
land adjacent to the Media Centre, land at Knockholt Road and
Northdown House and depot in Margate.
- Land at Barnes Avenue, Westbrook
- Albion House, Albion Place car park, Colemans Yard, the Motor
Museum, Greenfield Road, the closed toilets in Boundary Road in
Ramsgate
- Land at Dumpton Park Drive and Vere Road car and coach park in
Broadstairs
The meeting allowed up to three speakers per site and, in total,
there were 25 speakers on 10 of the proposed sites. More than 30
members of the public turned up to hear the discussions.
The Cabinet will now consider the views from the extraordinary
meeting and will make a final decision will be made at the next
meeting on Thursday 7 August at 7pm.
Leader of Thanet District Council, Cllr. Sandy Ezekiel, said:
“We pride ourselves on being a listening council and that’s why we
wanted to give local people the chance to speak at this special
meeting of Cabinet, so that we could hear their views on sites put
forward for disposal. I’d like to thank everyone who took the time
to have their say at the meeting. It was very useful, giving
Cabinet Members the opportunity to hear first hand the issues
regarding these sites. That will be really helpful when we come to
make our final decision on this subject at our meeting in
August.”
