Margate's Big Event returns
One of Thanet’s biggest summer events returns over the Father’s
Day weekend with a spectacular line-up both on the ground and in
the air.
Margate’s Big Event, a free two day land and air spectacular
organised by Thanet District Council, will once again offer a full
flying display on both days, supported by live music and
entertainment on the ground, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June.
Amongst those taking to the air are Typhoon, Tutor and Tucano
aircraft, the Hawk 208 Squadron and the Battle of Britain Memorial
Flight, with the Falcons and Tigers parachute teams both dropping
in over the weekend.
Highlights on the ground include some of the south east’s top
bands, with Val Kelly and Freespirit, Hullabaloo and California
Dreaming amongst those performing. Saturday night will see a Magic
of Motown tribute concert, followed by a fireworks finale. Arena
acts will include the Devil’s Horsemen, a team of Cosack riders,
James Dylan Stuntworld, holder of eight world records and Essex
Dogs, the country’s leading civilian dog display team.
Cllr. Roger Latchford, Cabinet Member for Culture and Economy,
said: “Margate’s Big Event has something for the whole family and
was a huge success last year. We know that events are important to
local people and they also provide a huge boost to our tourism
trade and that’s why the council is organizing Margate’s Big Event.
This year is set to be another spectacular one with a great line-up
over the weekend and more names still to be announced. I look
forward to seeing everyone there for another superb event.
“As far as events in Thanet go, it’s getting stronger every
year, with the addition of the European Waterskiing Championships
this year at Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour. We’ve got one of the biggest
and best events programmes of any destination in the south east of
England, with a real variety of things to see and do, complementing
our three beautiful towns and surrounding villages.”
Margate’s Big Event will be open from 10am to 10pm on the
Saturday and from 10.30am to 6pm on the Sunday with free admission
on both days. For more information about Margate’s Big Event, call
