Cabinet changes announced

Changes have been announced to which councillors look after which areas of Thanet District Council’s business.

There will still be five Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet portfolio holders, but their portfolio will now line up to each of the council’s five service areas.

The services allocated to each portfolio and the Cabinet members responsible for these are:

Portfolio

Cabinet Member (Labour)

Corporate and Regulatory Services (which includes community safety, environmental health, licensing, land charges, democratic services and legal services)

The Leader will also be responsible for strategic aspects of economic development and regeneration

Cllr. Clive Hart

(Leader of the Council)

Commercial Services (which includes waste and recycling, street cleaning, public toilets, Port of Ramsgate, Ramsgate Royal Harbour Marina, coastal protection, parks, allotments, crematorium and cemeteries, general estate management and emergency planning)

Cllr. Alan Poole

(Deputy Leader of the Council)

Community Services (which includes housing need and homelessness, private sector housing, housing intervention, the Margate Task Force, strategic planning, planning applications, planning enforcement, operational aspects of economic development and regeneration, tourism, sport, art, foreshores, museums, building control, conservation, the Thanet Coast Project, indoor and outdoor leisure, play areas and events)

Cllr. Iris Johnston

Financial Services (which includes East Kent Audit)

Cllr. Rick Everitt

Business Services including communications, performance, policy and procurement.  It also includes shared services such as East Kent Housing, human resources, customer services, revenues and benefits and IT services.

Cllr. Michelle Fenner

Leader of the Council, Cllr. Clive Hart said: "These changes aim to simplify the way the council works by matching up each Cabinet Member to one of the council’s five service areas. That means we will be working with one senior manager, whereas previously, some Cabinet Members were dealing with two of three senior managers. That didn’t seem to be a good use of resources to me, especially as the council is aiming to be as efficient as possible in everything it does.”
