2011 election results

All the results have been declared in the 2011 Thanet District Council elections, with no party gaining overall control of the council. (Friday 6 May).

Due to the requirement that the council had to complete the verification of the Alternative Vote referendum, before proceeding with the count and declarations of the District and Parish council elections, the normal count process was unexpectedly prolonged with the final results declared just before 8am. As a result, the count for the Town and Parish Council elections for Broadstairs and St. Peter's, Minster and Ramsgate, which had been due to take place overnight, had to be held the following day (Friday 6 May).

In total, Thanet District Council has 56 seats, with a party needing to win 29 seats for an overall majority. The numbers elected for each party were:

Party 2011 elections Pre-2011 elections
Conservative 27 32
Labour 26 20
Independent Group 0 2
Independent 3 1

(Prior to the 2011 election, there was one vacant seat)

Turnout across Thanet in the District Council elections was 42%, an improvement on the 2007 elections, when the turnout was 35%.
