Green Fayre heads to Margate
A circus of a different kind will be in Dane Park on Saturday 17
May to provide a fascinating variety of green-themed family
entertainment giving information on how we can all help to go
green.
The Green Fayre is the UK’s first nationally touring solar
powered circus and will be in the park for a schools’ day on Friday
16 May when over 1,000 children will watch the circus shows. The
Fayre is open to the public on Saturday 17 May with free admission;
the only charge will be to ride on the solar powered merry-go-round
(at £1 a go).
On Saturday circus shows will start at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, with a
special circus skills workshop starting at 11am. The Green Fayre
brings an array of green-themed family fun including inflatable
whales and dolphins, the Scrapstore tent, where you can make things
out of waste, and electric cars, bicycles and tricycles.
The event is being funded by the Safer Stronger Communities Fund
(SSCF), which aims to transform the wards of Cliftonville West and
Margate Central and the green space of Dane Park, by improving the
quality of life for those who live and work in these areas. There
will be a SSCF exhibition tent where visitors to the Fayre will be
able to find out more about the projects, including those run by
local clubs, groups and residents that have been funded by the SSCF
over the past two years. There will also be information on grants
and loans available to improve energy efficiency within the
home.
Carla Wenham-Jones, SSCF Programme Manager said: “The Green
Fayre is an excellent way to enjoy all the fun of the circus, while
finding out more about going green. Of course, residents in
Cliftonville West and Margate Central are already playing their
part by getting involved with the recycling scheme that’s been part
funded by SSCF. It’s also a good opportunity to see the
improvements that have been made to Dane Park and to showcase the
82 projects, which SSCF have funded over the past two years. The
SSCF is already making a big difference to life in the area and
that’s something we intend to continue with.”
