More publicity for crime crackdown
|
New publicity material has been distributed to pubs and clubs
along Margate seafront, as the latest stage of a high profile
campaign that’s already seen crime halved in the area in the last
few months.
The initiative, along Marine Terrace, is being driven forward by
the Thanet
Community Safety Partnership and owners of licensed premises on
Marine Terrace. The Partnership is a group of organisations,
including Kent Police, Thanet District Council, Kent Fire and
Rescue Service, the NHS and Kent County Council, who are working to
make the area a safer place.
Posters remind people out socialising that CCTV cameras are
monitoring what happens along Marine Terrace, with a warning to
“smile… you’re on camera!” As well as posters, business cards and
beer mats have also been produced, which contain useful numbers for
people to call if they need to report crime or anti-social
behaviour, get help and advice or even to get home after a night
out.

It’s part of an ongoing initiative to help reduce crime and
anti-social behaviour in pubs and clubs along Margate seafront,
which has already seen crime halved in the last four months. Head
cameras have already been ordered, which can be worn by door staff
at venues, and portable metal archways have been used to check for
knives. Bluetooth technology has also been used to send out safety
messages to people out socialising at night.
Community Safety Officer Tiffany Hall said: “This is the latest
element of our ongoing campaign to make Marine Terrace a safer
place to socialise. The campaign’s already achieved some excellent
results, but we need to keep reminding people that we are watching
what’s going on there and will take action as necessary. It’s also
important that people have access to important phone numbers to
report crime or anti-social behaviour and to get any help or advice
they need.”
