Minster Children help to celebrate Christmas

Children from Minster Primary School have designed a modern Christmas greeting for Thanet District Council's official Christmas cards.

Pupils at the schools were the winners of a competition organised by the council to design a modern-day Christmas card that could be sent by email. The competition was open to the school pupils, who were tasked to design artwork for a multimedia card that reflected Christmas, with  a Thanet theme.

The council had an enthusiastic response from entrants of all ages, who came up with a wide variety of artistic entries.

The overall winners, whose entries have been made into the council's official electronic Christmas cards, were Thomas, Charleigh and Richard, all aged seven, who came up with the images, while Alice, aged seven, designed the wording.

The winners each received a gift token and a certificate, which was presented to them by the Chairman of the Council, Cllr. Margaret Sheldrick. The money that would have been spent on corporate Christmas cards has been donated to the school.

Cllr. Sheldrick said: “We are really pleased to support our local schools and this is one example of the work that we do with them. It was great to be part of such an innovative school competition and I’d like to congratulate all those who took part. I would particularly like to thank all the teachers who helped their pupils and supported the competition. The design struck just the right balance between highly original content and charming simplicity.”
