Sport Matters on tour
Sport Matters – and that’s why sport is heading out on tour
during the school holidays as part of Summer Blast 08 for young
people.
Thanet District Council’s sports development team will be
touring the area over the next four weeks with a van full of
sporting equipment, including the inflatable football pitch, which
first made its debut during last year’s Summer Blast events.
There will be opportunities for young people between the ages of
five and 18 years old to also take part in volleyball, cricket,
rounders, ultimate Frisbee and even get involved with a tug of
war.
The tour will be visiting the following sites on these
dates:
Tuesday 29 July
- St. Nicholas at Wade, Bell Meadow sports ground
Tuesday 5 August
- Victoria Gardens, Broadstairs
Tuesday 12 August
Tuesday 19 August
- Coleman Crescent, Ramsgate
All sessions will take place from 1pm until 4pm and entry is
free.
Cllr. Jo Gideon, Cabinet Member for Safer Neighbourhoods, Health
and Communities, said: “Our sports development team is committed to
getting as many young people involved in sport as they can. It’s
especially important to do that during the summer holidays, as
young people won’t be getting the sporting opportunities that they
usually enjoy when they’re at school. Our team are going right into
the community over the next few weeks to make sure that sport is
available right on people’s doorsteps. That way, young people don’t
have far to travel to get involved with Sport Matters this
summer.”
