Calling the Council

Most of the information you will require from the Council is available on this website. If you can’t find the information you need online, you can call the Council on the main switchboard number 01843 577000 or come into our offices within the Thanet Gateway Plus.

The guide below shows the times that the Thanet Gateway Plus experiences high, medium and low call volumes to this number and approximate waiting times. Please refer to this when calling us to ensure the quickest response.

If you need to call during periods of high call volumes, you can leave a message
when prompted and we will call you back. All messages are then answered in the order
that they are received.

A recorded message gives two options in case of Emergency:

  • If Customers have a touch-tone phone - In an Emergency press 1 to connect to our Emergency Centre.
  • For Customers who do not have a touch-tone phone - A telephone number is given to enable customers to ring our Emergency Centre direct, 01303 226265

Council office opening hours are:

Monday to Thursday 8.45am - 5.30pm and Friday 8.45am - 5pm.

How to get here

Margate railway station is about 10 minutes walk from the offices, or a short taxi journey. Bus services stop at Cecil Square just a few steps from the Council Offices.
