Thanet District Council Sports Development service is delighted to be working in partnership with the Zone Youth Club in Broadstairs to deliver the Fit and Fed programme, supported by Street Games UK and Sport England.

The programme will provide a whole host of activities including:

  • Free sport and physcial activity sessions, fun games and team building tasks.
  • Free first aid training delivered by the British Red Cross.
  • Artistic sessions and music.
  • Free lunch and information on how to prepare healthy snacks and meals.

Why is Fit and Fed Important?

  • Evidence suggests school holidays have become harder for low-income families, with many young people becoming isolated, hungry and inactive.
  • A poor diet, lack of activities, and limited social engagement leaves them poorly prepared to return to school.
  • Research by Kellogg's shows that 62% of famalies on less than average family income struggle to feed their children during the school holidays.
  • During 2016 across the UK, over 2.4 million young people did not go on a school trip and over 7 million will not have a family holiday.
  • Fit and Fed aims to reduce these statistics within our communities to tackle holiday hunger and inactivity.
  • The programme will encourage local people, clubs, businesses, volunteers and food providers to come together to support Fit and Fed in local areas.
