Seven areas of agricultural land across Thanet have been removed from the council’s Asset Disposal list following public consultation.
The sites, including land at North Foreland near Joss Bay, will not be progressed for sale and will be retained by the council for the foreseeable future.
Following the consultation, 13 sites will now be recommended for sale. Most of the land earmarked for sale has been unused or vacant for some time but has cost the council money through management and maintenance.
Asset disposal is important for the council as it helps to reduce its ongoing costs and can generate additional income. The money generated from the sales will contribute to the council’s capital programme which pays for major projects or improvements to council services.
Councillor Chris Wells, Leader of the Council, said:
“We’d like to thank residents for taking the time to respond to the consultation which identified the areas of land they feel is important to them and their communities.
“We will now progress the sale of sites which have been identified as surplus to requirements and use the money wisely on resident’s behalf.”
