Thanet Community Lotto - YOU could win £25,000

There are just two weeks to go until the first draw of the Thanet Community so it’s not too late to get your first tickets and be in for a chance of winning £25,000!

The first draw of the new lottery, which will benefit a host of local good causes, takes place on Saturday 9 December 2017.

The online Thanet Community Lotto, which has been set up by Thanet District Council, has a weekly jackpot of £25,000. Tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local organisations, compared to 28p in the pound for the National Lottery.

The council has appointed an independent Lottery Manager, Gatherwell, to run the lottery on its behalf, in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005.

Nineteen good causes have so far signed up to benefit from the lottery, with more in the process of joining. They include scouts, a forest school, a theatre company, a youth charity, a museums trust and the RNLI to name a few.

Cllr Wells, Leader of Thanet District Council said:

“We are delighted with the response from Thanet charities and community organisations and are now looking for the public to get behind the scheme and buy tickets online. This is a simple way for people to support worthy causes who do great work in our community.”

Winners will be drawn at random every Saturday at 8pm, with the jackpot being awarded for a matching sequence of six numbers. Other cash prizes include £2,000, £250 or £25.

Martin Squire, Assistant Manager of Monkton Nature Reserve said:

“The Thanet Community Lotto is an exciting opportunity for Monkton Nature Reserve to benefit from the generosity of its supporters. The funds raised will enable us to continue to promote environmental education and conservation to help safeguard our ecological future.”

In the changing face of local government a number of councils have started their own online lotteries and Thanet District Council is hoping that introducing a similar scheme in Thanet will help to bring significant support to local causes.

One off prize for first draw

There is also a special extra prize for the first draw kindly donated by Dreamland so one lucky player will win an annual family membership worth £175!

There are two ways that organisations can benefit from the lottery. Charities will be able to set up their own lottery page and will receive 50p in every pound spent by players using this method. A further 10p in every pound will go into a general good causes fund, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Players who do not wish to support a specific cause can still take part in the Thanet Community Lottery, with 60p of their ticket price going into the general good causes fund, which will be distributed by the council.
