Building regulations services

Building Regulations apply to building work in England and Wales, they set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health of people in or about those buildings.  Including requirements to ensure the conservation of fuel and power, facilities are provided for people, and access and ease of movement for people with disabilities in and around buildings.

It is important to understand how to comply and the consequences of not complying with the Building Regulations.

Building Regulations approval is a separate matter from obtaining planning permission for your work. Similarly, receiving planning permission (which your work may require) is not the same as taking action to ensure that it complies with the Building Regulations.

Further details of Building Regulations and associated legislation can be found at Front Door or Planning Portal where you can also view the Interactive House to check if consent will be required.

Guidance on when Competent Person Schemes can provide an alternative to the submission of a formal Building Control application can be obtained from at Building Work, replacements and repairs to your home pages of the DCLG website.

Information in relation to electrical works can also be found at http://www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk/ and https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/guidance/
