Alcohol Public Spaces Protection Order – PSPO
A PSPO order to deter anti social street drinking in Thanet has been approved
On November 16th November 2017, Cabinet members from Thanet council approved plans to introduce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) across the whole isle – with the exception of Monkton and Acol.
This PSPO restricts carrying and consuming alcohol which is causing, or could cause, Anti Social Behaviour, when asked not to do so by an authorised officer, within a designated boundary of the Thanet district.
This PSPO replaces the Designated Public Places Order relating to alcohol control, which expired in October 2017, due to the introduction of PSPOs.
The Community Safety team and Kent Police currently deal with Anti Social Behaviour emanating from alcohol consumption which has a negative impact on the quality of life for residents and visitors to the District.
This PSPO is designed to give officers greater ability to tackle alcohol related Anti Social Behaviour in the interests of the wider community, residents, local businesses and visitors to the area.
