Update on Berth 4/5 project to go to Cabinet
Cabinet members will receive an update on the project to replace Berth 4/5 at the Port of Ramsgate when they meet on Thursday 16 June.
This follows the completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which was required as part of the project, and the subsequent granting of planning prior approval and the approval of a Marine Licence application from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).
This means that construction work on the berth can now progress.
Work had been delayed in October 2020 to allow the EIA to be undertaken to inform the planning and marine licence consents processes for the project.
Dredging to accommodate the replacement berth will be carried out this month with construction work commencing in July. The project is due to be completed by September 2022.
The existing berth was decommissioned and removed in November 2020 as it had reached the end of its operational life.
The project is anticipated to be delivered within the budget value of £2.3m which was approved by Cabinet on 29 July 2021.
