The annual Landlord Event hosted by Thanet District Council takes place on Thursday 19 September at the Glo Centre in Margate, with dozens of landlords and managing agents operating in the district expected to attend.
The event, which has been held for more than 20 years, is an opportunity for landlords and agents to find out about the latest legislation and regulatory obligations, discuss best practice and learn what support is offered by Thanet District Council. The objective of the event, which is targeted specifically at owners and managers of private sector rentals, is to raise awareness of ways that homes should be managed and drive improved standards within the private housing sector.
The programme features a range of presentations from the National Landlords Association, legal specialists and members of Thanet District Council’s housing team. Subjects include legislative changes including the Government’s plans for a National ‘Rogue’ Landlord Database, risk reduction when letting, legal issues that affect landlords, updates on selective licensing and on the work being completed by the Multi-Agency Task Force (MTF).
In addition to the formal presentations, there will be representatives from a number of public agencies and trade organisations including Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Becket Chambers, iHowz and Housing Hand Guarantor Service available to offer guidance and advice to landlords as well as the opportunity for peer to peer networking.
Cllr Lesley Game, Cabinet member for Housing and Safer Neighbourhoods, Thanet District Council said: “The annual landlord event has gone from strength to strength and we absolutely welcome anyone who is renting out property in Thanet to come along. This event is free and provides a wealth of information for landlords and their managing agents. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get right up to speed with the latest rules and regulations, understand your obligations and ask any questions you might have. I would urge landlords to sign up for this opportunity.”
The event is free to attend, however, places are limited and so pre-booking is recommended.
Landlords and agents interested in attending can find out more information by contacting the Private Sector Housing Team on 01843 577437 or by emailing landlordsfocusgroup@thanet.gov.uk.
Attendees that pre-book their place will be provided with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificates.
