The Localism Act 2011 includes key measures that underpin changes to the planning system.

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was published in March 2012 and sets out the Government’s vision for sustainable development. This replaces all previous Planning Policy Guidance (PPG), Planning Policy Statements (PPS) and many Circulars.

In addition the Government published separate Planning Policy for Travellers Sites to be read in conjunction with the NPPF.

Revocation of the South East Plan

The Regional Strategy for the South East was partially revoked on 25th March 2013. The Order revokes the whole document in relation to the Thanet District Council area and revokes any remaining structure plans within the region.
