The Pollution Patrol resource is designed to help raise awareness of air pollution and to improve air quality in the Kent and Medway area. Once registered to the resource, your school will have access to:

  • Immersive 360o animated story where children are invited to explore Sooting Town and learn where air pollution comes from, what it is made up of, how it can affect our health and ways to reduce it in and around school and home.
  • Assembly plan and playscript to help you to introduce the theme of air pollution and air quality across the whole school and to parents.
  • Differentiated lesson plans and teachers’ guide for KS1 and KS2, supporting aspects of the Science, PSHE and Geography curriculum.
  • You’ll also find much more including games, quizzes, and badges to collect and your chance to Pledge to reduce pollution.

The air quality in Kent and Medway is generally better now than it has been at any time since before the Industrial Revolution. These improvements have been achieved through the introduction of legislation enforcing tighter controls on emissions of pollutants from key sources, notably industry, domestic combustion, and transport. However, despite the improvements made, air pollution is still recognised as a risk to health, and many people are concerned about pollution in the air that they breathe.
