Emergency Planning
Sometimes, emergencies happen that require the council to take special action. By law, we have a duty of care to provide a strong and effective response to protect our community.
To make sure we are ready, we partner with other organisations as part of the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum and the Environment Agency. Together, we work to make Kent safer and coordinate our responses to major incidents.
An emergency is any event or situation that threatens serious damage to human welfare, the environment, or security in the UK.
This includes incidents that cause:
- Loss of life, illness, or injury
- Homelessness or damage to property
- Disruption to essential supplies (like water, food, energy, fuel, or money)
- Disruption to vital services (like health services or communication networks)
- Contamination of land, water, or air
In recent years, our officers have responded to a variety of local incidents, including floods, fires, evacuations, severe weather, and off-shore incidents.
PermalinkNo matter how well public services plan for disasters, it is still vital that you prepare too.
If an emergency does happen, being prepared can help you protect yourself, your family, and your home.
