Residents evacuated from four roads in Margate

Update – 9 October 2025:

Following an evacuation of residents at four roads in Margate yesterday evening, the Emergency Services confirmed that they were able to return home at midnight (Thursday 9 October).

The roads affected were Rosedale Road, Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road and Malham Drive.

Transport was arranged by our officers for any residents where this was needed.

The council’s rest centre team, which was set up at Hartsdown Leisure Centre, provided support for about 25 people, providing food, drinks and other support.

Thank you to residents for their patience and understanding and to Your Leisure for their support and for the use of the leisure centre.

Kent Police is investigating the incident and we will support them and other statutory partners as required.

 

8 October 2025:

Residents at four roads in Margate have been evacuated by Kent Police this evening (Wednesday 8 October) following a report of a property containing suspicious items.

The roads affected are Rosedale Road, Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road and Malham Drive.

Thanet District Council has set up a welfare centre to support any residents displaced as a result of the evacuation. This is located at Hartsdown Leisure Centre in Margate.
