Apply online for a parking permit
You can apply for or make changes to a parking permit online. Please ensure you have read the information and guidance below before submitting your application.

Where are the Resident Parking Zones?
Many of the roads in Thanet that are close to the town centres are controlled by Residents Parking Zones. We have 8 Residents Parking Zones in the District. You will be eligible to apply for a parking permit if you live in a road in one of these Zones:
1. Margate West
Albert Terrace (can purchase a permit but cannot park in bays within Albert Terrace), Belgrave Road, Eaton Hill, Eaton Road, Grosvenor Gardens, Grosvenor Hill, Grosvenor Place, High Street Margate (from No 86 evens and No 69 odds upwards) (Parking permitted between 154 and 200), Marine Gardens, Park Place, Queens Avenue.
2. Margate Addington
Addington Road, Addington Square, Addington Street, Carroways Place, Charlotte Place, Charlotte Square, Churchfields Place, Hawley Square (Parking only permitted on North, East & South Sides), Lausanne Road, Lausanne Terrace, Princes Crescent, Princes Street, St. Johns Road, St. Johns Street, Thanet Road, Union Crescent, Union Row, Upper Grove, Victoria Road.
3. Margate Old Town
Broad Street, Fort Road, Lombard Street, New Cross Street, New Street, The Parade.
4. Birchington
Albion Road, Alpha Road, Crescent Road,Eastfield Road, Minnis Road, Paddock Road, Prospect Road, Sandles Road, Station Approach, Station Road (can purchase a permit but cannot park in bays within Station Road), Surrey Gardens, Westfield Road, Woodford Court.
5. Broadstairs Prospect
Belmont Road, Carlton Avenue, Lawn Road, (High Street (evens 2 – 176), High Street (odds 69 – 149) can purchase permit but cannot park in bays within High Street), Lloyd Road, Pierremont Avenue, Prospect Place, Prospect Road, Thanet Road, Vere Road, Wardour Close.
6. Broadstairs Victoria
Belvedere Road, Chandos Road, Chandos Square (Cannot park within the car park), Charlotte Street, Dundonald Road, (High Street (Odd nos from 1-67 only) can purchase permit but cannot park in bays within High Street), Oscar Road, Queens Road, John Street, Raglan Place, Ramsgate Road, Serene Place, Victoria Parade, Wrotham Avenue, Wrotham Road, York Avenue, York Street.
7. Ramsgate Madeira
Abbotts Hill, Albion Hill, Albion Place, Kent Place, Wellington Crescent.
8. Ramsgate Harbour
Nelson Crescent, Sion Hill, Prospect Terrace, Rose Hill, Cliff Street, Paragon.
(A resident permit only covers the zone that it has been issued for and not roads in other residential zones. There are some areas that residents qualify for a permit but cannot park within the bays when they are chargeable.)

Can I have two vehicles on my permit?
Yes you can. The system will allow you to swap the vehicle you are using through the online account. Please note both vehicles will not be live on the permit at the same time. You must log in to your account and change the primary vehicle each time you want to park the secondary vehicle.
PermalinkI live in a residents parking zone, can I buy parking vouchers for visitors?
Yes. You will be able to buy individual vouchers for £3.60 each or 20 vouchers for £52.00 online through your account.
When you have a visitor you can log into your account and use the vouchers. These will be valid for 24 hours. The vouchers are only valid for the financial year of purchase.
Only 40 vouchers can be purchased per financial year.
PermalinkWill I have anything to display in my vehicle?
No, the new system will know that your vehicle has a valid permit. The Civil Enforcement Officers will scan your vehicle registration which will show them whether there is a valid permit.
PermalinkWhat happens if I change my vehicle?
You can transfer the permit to your new vehicle. To do so you will need to log in to your online account and change the vehicle registration. Once this is approved you will be sent a payment request for the £5 administration fee.
PermalinkCan I apply for a permit at The Gateway?
The Gateway Staff will no longer accept paper applications. You can only apply and pay online through the Thanet Council website.
PermalinkWill my permit be valid straight away?
Only car park season discs will be valid straight away. Any other permit will need to be approved. You should receive notification of this approval within two working days.
PermalinkI no longer need my permit, what should I do?
You can cancel this on your account. We will process the cancellation and we can refund the equivalent value of the remaining full months. Please note Resident Permits are purchased in quarters so you will only receive the remaining quarters and not the current one.
PermalinkDo I need to upload my proof of address documents?
Yes, as this is a new system you will be required to upload your proof of address documents, even if you have done so previously on the old system.
Once your documentation has been approved your permit will be made live.
PermalinkWhat documents can I use as proof of my address?
If you’re applying for a resident parking permit you will need to provide proof of your address and proof that the vehicle you are registering is associated with that address. To do this you can provide:
Proof of address (one of the following)
- Council tax bill
- Tenancy agreement
- Utility bill (three month limit – not for a mobile phone)
- Bank statement (three month limit)
- Mortgage documents (three month limit)
- Completion letter from solicitor
Proof of vehicle
- V5C document
- Insurance schedule
- Lease agreement/purchase document in your name
- Company headed letter
If you’re applying for a business permit you’ll need to provide proof of where you work and proof that you are associated with the vehicle you want a permit for.
Proof of business
- Company headed paper
- Proof of business rates
- Job description on company headed paper
Proof of vehicle
- V5C document
- Insurance schedule
- Lease agreement/purchase document in your name
- Company headed letter
Can I purchase a seasonal residents car park permit and where can this be used?
If you are a Thanet resident you can purchase reduced rate car park tickets online for use between April and October for the following car parks:
- Albion Street Broadstairs
- Broadstairs Harbour Broadstairs
- Chandos Square Broadstairs
- Joss Bay Broadstairs
- Marina Esplanade Ramsgate
**Update for April 2020** The permits cost £2.60 each or £52.00 for 20. You will be required to upload proof of your address.The vouchers are only valid for the year of purchase and between April and October.
When you want to park in a car park you can log into your account and book the vouchers.
Only 40 vouchers can be purchased per financial year.

Yes, unused paper vouchers will still be valid until the expiry date.

Season Disc Permits
(a) The use of season tickets is subject to the regulations contained in the current Off-Street Parking Places Order, copies of which are available for inspection if requested. (b) Each type of Season Disc will only be valid in certain car parks and are issued from the 1st of each month. (c) On change of a vehicle there will be a £5 administration charge, the change of vehicle will not be authorised until the payment is confirmed. (d) Refunds will only be made on the season disc for full unexpired calendar months. (e) All permits expire on 31 March so payment is worked out by pro-rata on full months. Please contact the Civil Enforcement Office for details. (f) 2 vehicles may be added to each permit but only 1 vehicle is valid to park using the permit. (g) Privacy Notice The information you provide will be processed by Thanet District Council to administer your permit application. This information will be kept securely and in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998. (h) This Authority is under a duty to protect the public funds it administers, and to this end may use the information you have provided on this form for the prevention and detection of fraud. Residential Permits
(a) The use of Residents’ Permits is subject to the regulations contained in the current On-Street Parking Order, copies of which are available for inspection if requested.. (b) Each type of Permit will only be valid in the area it is issued for parking in shared permit and time limited/pay and display bays only. The permits do not cover parking in car parks. Valid documentation must be provided before a permit will be issued (c) On change of a vehicle there will be a £5 administration charge, the change of vehicle will not be authorised until the payment is confirmed. (d) Refunds will only be made for full unexpired quarters. (e) 2 vehicles may be added to each permit but only 1 vehicle is valid to park using the permit. (f) A maximum of 2 permits per household will be issued. (g) Privacy Notice The information you provide will be processed by Thanet District Council to administer your permit application. This information will be kept securely and in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998. Dispensation permits
(a) The use of Dispensation Permits is subject to the regulations contained in the current On-Street and Off-Street Parking Order, copies of which are available for inspection if requested.. (b) Each type of Permit will only be valid for temporary parking of up to 2 hours where permitted. Dispensation allows parking in areas but does not allow parking on Double Yellow , Bus Stops, Zig Zag lines. Valid documentation must be provided before a permit will be issued (c) Commercial Dispensation permits are linked to Council Licences and must be provided during application. Community Permits are only issued to a small number of vehicles that provided a free voluntary service out in the community and may need to park to drop off something to a household or who are volunteering as part of a group. (d) On change of a vehicle there will be a £5 administration charge, the change of vehicle will not be authorised until the payment is confirmed. (e) Refunds will only be made for full unexpired quarters. (f) Privacy Notice The information you provide will be processed by Thanet District Council to administer your permit application. Vouchers
(a) Vouchers can only be used as a single use. Once the registration is submitted this cannot be changed. (b) Vouchers are only valid in the correct parking area. If the voucher is for a permit area then visitors to your property may use these. Valid documentation must be provided before vouchers will be issued, Only 40 resident zone permits can be purchased per financial year and are only valid for that financial year. (c) Car park vouchers are only available for residents of Thanet and are only valid in the stated car parks between April and October. Valid documentation must be provided before a vouchers will be issued. Only 40 car parking vouchers can be purchased per financial year and are only valid for that financial year. (d) No refunds are available for vouchers purchased (e) Vouchers are not available for resale to other drivers.
