Regulation 16 consultation on the Broadstairs & St Peter’s Neighbourhood Plan Review

Thanet District Council has received a revised draft Neighbourhood Plan from Broadstairs & St Peter’s Town Council.

We are now seeking views on the proposals which will update the existing Neighbourhood Plan, if adopted. This is the last opportunity to comment before the proposed plan goes to the Independent Examiner.

Under the Localism Act 2011, local communities can produce Neighbourhood Plans, setting out policies on the development and use of land in their area. If the Plans are adopted by the district council they will have the same weight as other Development Plan documents for the district.

The council must now carry out a six week consultation on the draft Plan before submitting it for independent examination. All of the comments received will be passed to the Examiner (appointed by the council but agreed with the town council) for their consideration in the Examination process. The Examiner will decide whether or not the 2nd Edition Neighbourhood Plan will be subject to a referendum, or if it can be adopted without the need for a referendum. This will depend on the Examiner’s view of the significance of the changes made to the plan since the original version.

How do I make comments?

The consultation is open from 9am on Thursday 9 February until 5pm on Thursday 23 March 2023.

The draft Neighbourhood Plan is available to view on Thanet District Council’s website. Please visit Broadstairs & St Peter’s Town Council’s website to view the supporting documents and evidence base for the Neighbourhood Plan.

The consultation document will be available to view at:

Broadstairs Library – The Broadway, Broadstairs, CT10 2BS

Comments can either be made online via the district council’s online consultation portal, emailed to local.plans@thanet.gov.uk or in writing to Strategic Planning, Thanet District Council, PO Box 9, Cecil Street, Margate, Kent CT9 1YW.
