Update on reopening play areas
From Monday 6 July, there will be a reopening of some play areas in Thanet. We have conducted a thorough review and initially 11 of the 33 play areas in the district will be opening up. Ahead of allowing the public to use these areas they will be deep cleaned, with twice weekly cleans using a diluted disinfectant on Mondays and Thursdays.
Signs will be placed in the play areas to reinforce the importance of maintaining social distancing and limiting contact with others. There will also be reminders that no food or drink is to be consumed within the play areas and that users should bring their own hand sanitiser.
The playgrounds will not be marshalled and people choosing to use them will be expected to use their own judgement on whether the area is too crowded to practice safe social distancing.
The remaining 22 play spaces will be opened up at a later date. Residents are urged to respect the rules and stay away from closed play equipment.

The prospective buyer of the former depot, adjacent to Pierremont Park in Broadstairs, has notified the council of their decision to withdraw from the sale.
The annual Heritage Open Days festival returns to Thanet from Friday 11 to Sunday 20 September 2026. It offers residents and visitors an opportunity to explore Thanet’s rich local heritage, hidden gems and historic landmarks, some of which are not normally open to the public. All events are free of charge.
Around £1.8m is set to be cut from the bills of the most vulnerable people in Thanet thanks to a partnership between Thanet District Council and Southern Water.
