Pre-Easter beach management preparations
The summer season is fast approaching and we are busy working with partner agencies to review and update our Beach Management Plan.
In the meantime, this weekend marks the start of the Easter school holidays and we wanted to let you know everything we’re doing to encourage people to respect, protect and enjoy our beautiful coastline:
- Sand levelling and litter-raking on our main bathing water beaches
- Litter pick taking part at Minnis Bay on Monday 4 April as part of the Great British Spring Clean
- Put out 50 extra bins (the colourful recycling beach bins will be put out at the start of the summer season)
- Opening all our toilets arounds the district from Saturday 2 April
- Opening Viking Bay lift from Friday 1 April
- Cleansing teams will be out 7 days a week
- Bins will be emptied daily during the Easter holidays
- Viking Bay lift will be cleaned daily
- Toilets will be cleaned three times a day
- Enforcement officers will be on patrol across the district, supported by our 24 hour CCTV control room and Kent Police
- Staff and Councillors are taking part in three Great British Spring Clean litter picks across the district
- Hosting fun Easter holiday activities and training for all the family. Please check the Thanet Coast Project and Birdwise East Kent websites for more information and booking details
- Dog warden on patrol from Friday 1 April
What can you do?
- Use the bins provided. If a bin is full, please find a different one or, even better, take it home with you to recycle
- Park responsibly – please leave room for emergency vehicles, follow parking restrictions and be considerate to people who live in the area
- Familiarise yourself with the rules of the coast for everyone’s safety and enjoyment
Look out for our new ‘More to Explore’ campaign which encourages people to discover all that Thanet has to offer. Banners, posters, pavement stencils and digital assets coming soon!
