Food Hygiene Ratings
At Thanet District Council we operate the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and ratings of 0-5 are given to businesses during their first inspection. For many new businesses this is the first time that they will have contact with a food safety or environmental health officer.
New Service
From April 2023 we will be offering a consultancy service to new food businesses opening in Thanet. This means that an officer can carry out an advisory visit before you open, giving you the best possible chance of achieving a rating of 5 at initial inspection.
The service costs £212.00 and entitles the business to 2 hours of officer time including an onsite visit, tailored advice and guidance and a written report. By having a food safety advisory visit before you open your business, you can ensure that you have the best advice and the best chance of achieving a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 at your first formal inspection.
For larger businesses such as manufacturers and processing facilities we can provide more in depth advice and guidance and assist businesses with compliance on a more tailored basis.

Please note, we can only provide this service before your premises are open and trading, once the premises is open it becomes the responsibility of the local authority to carry out a formal inspection.
