Council invites local people to share feedback on 2025/26 draft budget

Thanet District Council is inviting local people to give their feedback on the council’s draft budget for the next financial year (April 2025 to March 2026).

The budget proposal includes an additional £1.1m of investment in key areas, to reflect things that residents, who responded to the annual survey, indicated matter most to them. The additional investment is proposed to improve public spaces; it includes graffiti clearance, street cleaning and refurbishment of local shelters.

Local councils receive income from Council Tax and business rates as well as from fees and charges for certain services provided. There is also some funding from central government. Each year the council sets a budget to decide how much money to spend on delivering services for Thanet’s residents and businesses. This includes recommendations about financing those services and spending on new proposals.

In October 2024, six thousand households in Thanet received a postcard inviting them to take part in the annual Residents’ Survey. Respondents were invited to indicate their levels of satisfaction with where they live and the services provided by the council. This budget proposal considers the feedback received. This new survey is an opportunity for local people to review the proposed budget and share their views on ongoing investment and one-off spending.

Feedback can be given via an online survey on Your Voice Thanet, the council’s public engagement platform. All surveys should be completed by 5pm on Wednesday 26 February.

The online survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Details of how to receive the survey in an alternative format can be found on Your Voice Thanet.

Following the end of the consultation, the budget proposal will be considered by Full Council at a public meeting on Thursday 27 February. If approved, it will be in place between Tuesday 1 April 2025 and Tuesday 31 March 2026.

The Cabinet report, which outlines the proposed budget and areas for additional investment, is available on the website
