RNLI flies red flag at Ramsgate Main Sands
Due to weather conditions causing dangerous rip currents today (Wednesday 3 September), the RNLI has raised a red beach flag at Ramsgate Main Sands.
Do not enter the water: the red flag indicates a severe hazard.
Water conditions are unsafe for swimming and other water activities.

Increased resources to support the council’s waste and recycling service are now in place. This follows disruption to collections for some residents since the introduction of new recycling services for 27,000 Thanet households. These changes were introduced in response to new national Simpler Recycling requirements by the government.
Proposals to set up a brand-new town council for Margate were agreed by Councillors at an Extraordinary Council meeting held on Thursday 18 June 2026.
