Thanet District Council appoints new operator for Ramsgate Market

Thanet District Council has selected a new operator for Ramsgate Market, following a competitive tendering process. 

Three submissions were received during the marketing period. After a thorough review and interviews with all of the potential market operators, Bray Associates has been selected to relaunch the market.

Bray Associates is one of the leading market operators in the UK with over 20 years’ experience. They currently manage markets for 13 local authorities. Their understanding of market operations will be key to relaunching the new enterprise in Ramsgate. 

Following the introduction of national lockdown restrictions, Ramsgate market was unable to continue for safety reasons, and the previous operator subsequently withdrew. It was closed in October 2020.

In June 2022, Cabinet approved proposals to secure a new operator for the market. It also agreed to remove existing street trading and hawking restrictions on the High Street, King Street and Queen Street.

Bray Associates plans to launch the new market in Ramsgate in April 2024, and expects to have between 15 and 30 traders. The market will be held on Ramsgate High Street, King Street and Queen Street.

A successful market provides a real focus for any town. Markets bring increased footfall to town centres, and we are confident that this will help Ramsgate’s existing businesses to thrive. 

“We believe that the appointment of Bray Associates is in the best interests of our community and will ensure the market’s sustainability in the long run.”
