Leader of Thanet District Council, Cllr Ash Ashbee said: “I’m pleased to be able to share the detail behind the council’s submission for Ramsgate as part of the Levelling Up Fund. It is a comprehensive and exciting bid which details ambitious plans for the future of the town. I wanted to ensure the formal document was available so the community can read our proposals and the details that have informed them.
“We continue to wait for feedback from the Government on the outcome, which we expect to receive later on this year. As yet, there hasn’t been a date set but we hope to share positive news about the bid in the Autumn.”
The bid was submitted on Friday 18 June 2021 with a £19.8m funding ask to support three components for Ramsgate:
- The Port
- The Royal Harbour
- Assets to Connect to Opportunity
The council’s bid is for a share of the Government’s £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund, which will invest in local infrastructure that has a visible impact on people and their communities across the UK. This includes a range of high value local investment priorities, for local transport schemes, urban regeneration projects and cultural assets.
More information on the Ramsgate bid is available in this news release.
Whilst the council awaits the outcome of the bid from Central Government, work continues on a longer term Town Investment Plan for Ramsgate – this is part of the Ramsgate Future initiative and is expected to be published in October 2021.
