Ramsgate fly-tipper ordered to pay £600 costs
Earlier this year, a defendant was found guilty of fly-tipping bagged waste and household goods in Chatham Passage, Ramsgate.
The case was heard on Monday 30 January 2023 at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court. On Thursday 2 March 2023, the court ordered that the defendant pay £380.85 towards the council’s enforcement costs and £243.27 towards clean-up costs, bringing the total to £624.12.
Thanet District Council received a report of fly-tipping in Chatham Passage. The Streetscene Enforcement team attended and cleared the site on Wednesday 22 June 2022. Officers discovered who the dumped waste belonged to, based on information found in the rubbish.
The council endeavours to act promptly to investigate when a fly-tip is reported, and the waste is removed as quickly as possible to prevent further items being dumped at the same spot. Streetscene Enforcement officers tackle this illegal activity. There is CCTV in known hotspots across the district and the team works hard to investigate these crimes. Fly-tipping is illegal and can lead to a £400 fixed penalty notice or a criminal prosecution.
