Our Street Cleansing team continues to tackle rubbish on the streets whilst managing recycling and waste clearances in order to keep our district clean. Between Tuesday 1 April and Sunday 31 August 2025, the team cleared around 8,000 tonnes of waste.
The Manston Depot received its first 35,000 litre delivery of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) on Wednesday 3 September. Until then, our fleet of vehicles ran on diesel, which accounted for over 40% of the council’s greenhouse gas emissions. While we’d love to replace older vehicles with electric models, suitable options for some of our larger HGVs are limited…
That’s where the HVO comes in. It’s a ‘transitional fuel’ for vehicles that cannot currently be replaced by electric ones. This shift aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions from council vehicles by a whopping 1,320 tonnes – over 90%.
