Action Against Litter newsletter – Issue 10
Fallen leaf collection
Building on the successful 2024 pilot (which composted tonnes of collected leaves), the autumn leaf composting programme will be expanded in 2025. Community volunteers in Thanet will be supplied with wheeled bins to collect fallen leaves, helping divert organic material from incineration. If you are a school, business or resident and want to participate, contact leafingbin@thanet.gov.uk to arrange a bin for your premises or street.

Recycling made simpler
Thanet is preparing to roll out waste collection changes in line with Simpler Recycling legislation. Approximately 27,000 households may switch to alternate weekly refuse and recycling collections, along with a new weekly food waste pickup, by March 2026 – making recycling more accessible for residents. Keep an eye on updates from the council for collection changes beginning in early 2026.
