Thanet District Council celebrates 50 years

Officially formed on 1 April 1974, this year, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Thanet District Council.

In recognition of the work carried out by the council in the five decades since being formed by the Local Government Act 1972, we are taking a look back at the last 50 years. We’ll reflect on how things have changed and the people who have helped shape Thanet District Council.

We will also be using the anniversary as an opportunity to share stories and photographs from milestone moments in our seaside towns and villages over the last half-century – and we would love you to join in the celebrations!
