Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
The period of National Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has now come to an end. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has played a part in ensuring that events across the district took place as they needed to.
Many local residents have visited the council offices or Thanet Gateway Plus to sign the Book of Condolence, and floral tributes were placed in the designated area at Hawley Square in Margate.
Staff and Councillors at Thanet District Council were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. A statement was issued by Cllr Jason Savage, Chairman of the Council.
Book of Condolence
A Book of Condolence was made available at Thanet Gateway Plus, Cecil Street, Margate for anyone wishing to pay their respects. It remained open until the end of Tuesday 20 September 2022. The book will now be bound and archived.
Members of the public were also able to share messages of condolence on the Royal website.

A designated area was set aside at Hawley Square in Margate for members of the public who wished to lay floral tributes. Flowers remained in situ for one week, following the period of mourning.
PermalinkReading of the Proclamation
Councillors from across the county, along with council staff and members of the public congregated in Hawley Square in Margate at 3pm on Sunday 11 September, to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth.
The Deputy Lieutenant of Kent introduced Cllr Jason Savage, Chairman of Thanet District Council, who read the Proclamation of the new Sovereign, followed by three cheers and God Save the King.
