Leader of Thanet District Council, Cllr Rick Everitt, has responded to news that the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero has granted the Development Consent Order for National Grid’s Sea Link development on Minster Marshes.
Cllr Everitt said: “This decision will be deeply disappointing for many people in Thanet, including Councillors. The council’s position as a consultee was established in the motion I brought to council in December 2023, which made clear we had major concerns. It was agreed cross-party.”
“However, the council is not the decision maker here and we have only received the decision along with the rest of the public. The examiners’ recommendation alone runs to 600 pages. We will study the detailed decision to understand what, if any, mitigations have been put in place to address the issues we have raised and will be in a position to comment in more detail once that has been possible.”
