A suspension prohibits parking for vehicles in a particular parking place. The suspension temporarily removes the parking regulations in place and prevents parking of unauthorised vehicles.
These suspensions are in any restricted bays covered by the Traffic Regulation Order and can be on and off street.
A yellow board detailing the dates and reason for the suspension will be erected at the place where the suspension will be in place. This will be in place approximately five working days(except in an emergency) before the suspension is due to take place to advertise to motorists of the upcoming suspension. While the suspension is in place cones or barriers may be supplied by the contractor. The council does not provide these for the suspended area.
A suspension can also be applied for to guarantee a parking space, e.g. for removals vehicles. This will suspend parking for other motorists, but will allow parking for the removals vehicle, as the reason for the suspension.
When will a Suspension be issued?
- Traffic movement and safety
- Essential building/ maintenance work
- Furniture removals
- Special events
- Weddings or funerals
Applying for a Suspension.
Please email email@example.com . Applications should be received no later than seven working days before the required date of the suspension (except in emergencies). This will enable the council to conduct any site visits and advertise the suspension appropriately.
The price will be agreed before a suspension is finalised and a purchase order must be supplied for an invoice to be raised.
A suspension prevents motorists parking within the suspended area. However, the applicant can park within the suspended bay.
A suspension can be extended where necessary. However, at least three working days notice needs to be given to enable the council to take any appropriate action needed to communicate the extension of the suspension. Further costs will need to be agreed before the suspension is extended.
Please note the council is unable to suspend any unrestricted bays.
How much do they cost?
Charges per suspension are:
- One off charge of £70 per application or change
- Any pay and display bay will be charged the hourly rate for the bay suspension.
