Action Against Litter newsletter – Issue 11
Thanet District Council’s Street Cleansing team work all year round to keep our environment clean.
Here is a summary of the work they carried out along the coast this summer:
- An increase of the total amount of waste collected from beaches and promenades, with over 1,100 tonnes of waste collected.
- 120 tonnes of recycling – a significant increase on previous years.
- The new bin housings were not additional bins, but replaced free-standing bins, which after some subtle adjustment of their location have proved a huge success. Their large size makes it clear where people can recycle and makes recycling easier.
- Lessons were learnt from previous years and the additional bins for the summer were put out earlier, which seemed to help avoid a big shock at the first busy weekend.
- These adjustments have meant that over 120 tonnes of recycling was collected in 2025 – compared to 30 tonnes in 2024.
- In total, over 1,100 tonnes of waste in total was collected from the coast during the summer.
