Hackney Carriage new application (purchased plates only)
Please only use this process if you have bought a Hackney Carriage plate from another owner.
Because the previous owner’s licence must be closed, you have to apply for a brand new vehicle licence in your name. Please note that all new vehicle licences expire one year from the date they are issued.
You must download and complete the application form, and submit it to licensing@thanet.gov.uk along with:
- Valid vehicle insurance.
- A Certificate of Compliance (from our list of approved garages).
- Proof of vehicle ownership.
- Visual examination and meter test records.
- Written confirmation of the transfer from the previous owner.
- Confirmation of who will be driving the vehicle.
- Standard new application: £393.00 + £19.80 plate fee + £17.70 for the bracket: £430.50
- Hybrid, or fully wheelchair accessible: £353.70 + £19.80 plate fee + £17.70 for the bracket: £391.20
- Electric: £0 + £19.80 plate fee + £17.70 for the bracket: £37.50
