Celebrating Thanet’s award-winning beaches
Thanet’s beaches have once again been recognised for their high standards, with four Blue Flags and 12 Seaside Awards awarded for summer 2026.
Blue Flag and combined Seaside Awards have been awarded to:
- Minnis Bay, Birchington
- Botany Bay, Broadstairs
- Joss Bay, Broadstairs
- Ramsgate Main Sands
A further eight beaches received Seaside Awards, bringing the total number of award-winning beaches in Thanet to 12. These include West Bay, St Mildred’s Bay, Westbrook Bay, Margate Main Sands, Walpole Bay, Stone Bay, Viking Bay and Louisa Bay.
The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised award and beaches must meet stringent criteria covering areas including water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and environmental information. Litter and waste management are among the environmental management criteria considered as part of the awards.
These awards recognise the hard work carried out throughout the year by council teams, businesses, community groups, volunteers and residents.
Keeping Thanet’s beaches clean isn’t just a summer job. The work continues throughout the year to protect our coastline and make it an enjoyable place for residents and visitors.
