Renew your Private Hire Drivers Licence

You must start your renewal at least two months before your current licence expires. This gives enough time for your new DBS (criminal record) check to come back. We cannot issue your new badge until your DBS check is returned.

By law, you must complete an online tax check to renew your taxi or private hire licence. You will receive a tax check number. We cannot renew your licence without this number.

The total fee for your renewal, which includes your medical and criminal record checks, is £284.30 (as of 1 April 2026).

Please note: If your renewal is refused for any reason (such as convictions on your DBS) you will not be entitled to a refund.

Once you have completed your renewal form and paid your fees, please complete the online form to book an appointment for us to check your documents.

You must sign up for the DBS Update Service within 19 days of receiving your new DBS certificate in the post.

This service currently costs £16 a year and is now mandatory, as background checks will soon be required every six months. Signing up means you won’t have to pay the £49.50 fee at your next renewal, and the process will be much quicker.
