Precautionary warning: reporting dead wildlife
There has been a single case of bird flu identified in a gull at Botany Bay.
As a precaution, and in line with government guidance, signs are in place to warn the public, including an important message about not feeding birds and information on how to report dead birds or other wildlife.
Trained officers from the council are responsible for any collection and disposal.
The public is warned not to handle dead birds or any other wildlife.
Where warning signs are in place, dog owners are advised to keep their pets on a lead and away from any dead wildlife.
Any wildlife found should be reported to Thanet District Council using the online form:
thanet.gov.uk/wildlife-reporting or by calling 01843 577 000
Government advice is that bird flu is primarily a disease of birds and the risk to the general public’s health is very low.
