Thanet District Council – Key Christmas Information
Over the festive period there are changes to our office opening hours and to our waste and recycling days for some local residents.
All the important information about services and opening times can be found on our Christmas Information page
Services and opening hours
It includes details of when residents can access customer services, which days the Visitor Information Centre at Droit House, Margate is open, as well as key contact information and opening times for the Harbour Office in Ramsgate. The grounds and remembrance chapel at the crematorium and at Margate and Ramsgate cemeteries will be open every day, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s day.
Waste and recycling collections
We aim to keep disruption to our waste and recycling collections to a minimum. This year only three collections days will change. Residents who usually have their waste or recycling collected on Tuesday or Wednesday will be affected because of when Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day fall this year.
Affected collections:
- Christmas Day (Tuesday 25 December) – will be collected on Saturday 22 December
- Boxing Day (Wednesday 26 December) – will be collected on Saturday 29 December
- New Year’s Day (Tuesday 1 January) – will be collected on Saturday 5 January
All other collection dates remain the same, meaning everyone else will still have collections on their usual days, including Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and Wednesday 2 January.
Information about collection dates and opening hours will also be posted to the Thanet District Council Twitter and Facebook pages.
If an emergency should arise during the period that our offices are closed, the usual out of hours contact protocol applies – you can call our Emergency Centre on 01303 221888

See allLike many local councils, 2024 marks a significant milestone for Thanet District Council as it is 50 years since it was inaugurated.
Thanet District Council is inviting members of the public to learn more about its designs for the Green Campus, one of Ramsgate’s Levelling Up Fund regeneration projects. The Green Campus will create spaces for training, enterprise and light industry along Military Road. It will be a self-sufficient destination for enterprise and skills development.
