Advisory warning at Thanet beaches lifted
Update posted Friday 2 January
Advisory warnings in place at a number of Thanet beaches have been lifted.
Earlier this week there were sightings of white, waxy deposits, on the foreshore at Margate Main Sands, Ramsgate Main Sands and Botany Bay.
As a precaution, members of the public were asked to keep dogs on leads in the areas affected and not to allow their pets to eat the deposits. Signs were displayed at the affected beaches.
On Wednesday 31 December, the council announced that the deposits had been cleared, and following inspections around the coast, signs warning the public were removed from the affected beaches.
Any further sightings of suspicious objects should be reported to the Coastguard.
Original information posted Sunday 28 December:
The council has been notified of sightings of white, waxy deposits which might be palm oil, on the foreshore at Margate Main Sands, Ramsgate Main Sands and Botany Bay.
As a precaution, it is important that dogs are kept on leads in the areas impacted and that owners do not allow their pets to eat the deposits.
Signs warning the public will be displayed at the beaches affected.
There will be inspections around the coast at first light tomorrow (Sunday 28 December) and clearance of the deposits will be arranged.
