Guidance on applying for a new Private Hire Vehicle Licence
Please complete the online request form to book a vehicle inspection.
PermalinkOnce your vehicle passes our visual inspection, we will give you the compliance paperwork. You must take this paperwork to one of our approved garages to get your Certificate of Compliance and checklist.
PermalinkAfter your vehicle has passed its visual inspection and garage check, you need to send us your paperwork. You can scan and email these documents to licensing@thanet.gov.uk (please state what your email is about in the subject line).
You must include:
- A completed application form (this must be filled in by the licence holder).
- Proof of ownership (your vehicle registration document/logbook or new keeper’s slip).
- The Certificate of Compliance and checklist from the garage.
- Valid, up-to-date vehicle insurance that clearly shows cover for “hire and reward.”
- Standard new application: £365.00 licence fee + Plate £19.80 + Bracket £17.70 = £402.50
- New application for wheelchair accessible or hybrid vehicles: £328.50 licence fee + plate £19.80 + bracket £17.70 = £366.00
- Electric: £0 + Plate £19.80 + bracket £17.70 = £37.50
Once you have submitted your paperwork, you can pay via bank transfer using the following details:
- Bank: National Westminster Bank PLC
- Sort Code: 60-14-05
- Account Number: 67834000
- Payee: Thanet District Council
- Payment Reference: Your licence number (e.g., LN/…), your plate number, or your full name.
Once your application and payment are processed, your new licence will be emailed to you.
